South Woodside Elementary

Monday Update

Dear families,

Below is information on arrival and dismissal procedures as well as expectations around visitors. Please note, you will receive direct communication from your child’s classroom teacher before the first day. This will give them a chance to introduce themselves and help to answer any questions you may have.

Arrival: Students will not be permitted on school grounds before 8:30am and are not permitted to use the school playground upon arrival. Parents are asked to “drop and go.” In accordance with public health protocol, parents are asked to refrain from congregating on school property. When students arrive on the school grounds, they will go directly to their designated entrance (will be communicated soon) where they will be greeted by a staff member and be asked to sanitize their hands. Students will enter the building and go directly into the classroom where their classroom teacher will be ready to greet them. Teachers will be working with students to practice new routines when using our coat racks. We will begin to use our hooks the week of September 21st. This will allow time for explicit instruction of new routines and procedures. Any student arriving after 8:50 will be asked to use the main doors.

Dismissal: At the end of the day, each class will be dismissed over the P.A. system. Students will be expected to take home all of their personal belongings at the end of each day; therefore, leaving no belongings in the cubbies. When each class is called, students will exit the building through their designated exit with their teacher and go to the class meeting area. At this spot, students can be dismissed to their parent / guardian or caregiver. If students that are permitted to walk home, they can be dismissed at this time. If there are families that have siblings that walk together, we ask that the older sibling pick up their younger sibling at their class meeting area, then they can leave together. Like the morning, parents will not be permitted to hang around.

Visitors: A strong relationship between home and school is important to student well-being and success. Under the Back to School plan, visitors, including parents / guardians, will not normally be permitted in the school.

As a school, we will look to alternative ways to engage with parents / guardians that do not require you to physically enter the building. Teachers will continue to reach out to you as it relates to your child’s education and well-being. We encourage you to communicate regularly with the school and your child’s teachers.

Toys and stuffies: In accordance with public health guidelines and the “no sharing” policy, we ask that all toys and stuffed animals remain at home.

Thank you,

 Ms. MacIntyre & Ms. Greenwood
